UCHealth Surgical Isolation Suites
Speciality Operating Suite Fitup
This 3,000 SF unique operating room (ORs) fit-up was a fast track project to accommodate a new surgeon who specializes in Interventional Pulmonology. This is the first of 4 ORs to be planned for this space.
Our healthcare Engineers provided in-depth and detailed as-built assessment of the current space to understand the building systems’ capacity, and current condition to inform on budget, planning, and design for the area.
The new operating room (OR) was built in the middle of the outpatient surgical floor, which required significant planning to not disrupt ongoing operations. A new air handler unit (AHU) and exhaust air system were required to serve this space and sized such that it can support a total build-out of 4 OR’s. The new AHU and its ductwork had to be routed from an adjacent roof into the building and into the new space. In addition, the team needed to work through and define pressurization cascades and which areas were clean versus dirty.
The end result is a hybrid operating room where bronchial procedures can take place with negative room pressure isolating this OR from others in the unit. Our team worked closely with State Health and local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to educate and understand this area’s unique requirements and ensure that is space would perform as required for the surgeon, staff, and patient.
