Nebraska Medicine Lauritzen Outpatient Center
SES was independently selected as the Engineering firm to assist Nebraska Medicine in their efforts to build a new state-of-the-art comprehensive surgical outpatient facility on their main campus. Our team provided Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Technology engineering services. This state-of-the-art healthcare facility houses orthopedics, outpatient radiology, outpatient surgery, advanced microscopic eye surgery, ENT Center of Excellence, oral facial surgical labs and procedure space, conference and collaborative learning spaces, and an orthopedic prosthetic research development and fabrication facility.
Unique aspects of this project were the complexities of accommodating multiple building occupants and managing the coordination details with the acoustic and vibration sub-consultants. A significant machine shop with plasma cutters, CNC machining, hydraulic presses and large rotating mass testing machines were placed on floors above the microscopic eye surgery suites. This required our Team to work closely with Owner, Design Team and the acoustic and vibration sub-consultants to define the measures for vibration dampening and equipment support throughout the entire facility.
Additionally, SES worked closely with Building Information Management (BIM) Coordinator and the contracting team to deliver the project in 4 distinct packages that were seamlessly integrated into the construction schedule. The project was delivered in an integrated guaranteed maximum price model, where the lower levels were under construction long before the final construction documents were completed.
