SES partnered with BWBR and Monument Health to design the first phase of modernization for inpatient Women’s and Children’s care on Monument’s Health’s Rapid City Hospital Campus. The new building addition includes a three-story expansion featuring a 24-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and 18-bed Labor and Delivery Unit (LDRP). Future phases of the tower will include the fit-out of shelled space for an outpatient clinic, followed by renovations to the existing labor and delivery and pediatric inpatient units. SES provided comprehensive mechanical and electrical engineering design services to support both current construction and long-term master planning, ensuring system capacity, redundancy, and adaptability for future growth.
The new facility connects to the existing hospital and leverages available redundant hospital systems while also expanding with some independent systems to relieve the burden of additional infrastructure where available capacity should be preserved. The design includes a wide variety of specialty healthcare engineering systems and incorporates thermal energy storage in support of Monument’s energy and sustainability goals. SES coordinated closely with the architectural and owner stakeholder teams to integrate mechanical and electrical systems in support of the healing environment for women, children, and families. Together, the phased approach establishes a clear roadmap for a dedicated, modernized Women’s and Children’s Center serving families across western South Dakota and the surrounding region.
