Levine Cancer Institute Expansion

Oncology Outpatient Clinic, Infusion, Laboratory, and Research.

Atrium Health’s Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a plan to build a $125 million outpatient care center on Morehead. The 7-story, 260,000 SF building will be adjacent to the institute’s original 6-story building and connected by an above-ground walkway. The 3.5-acre lot, near the corner of Morehead and Kenilworth Avenue, is currently a surface parking lot.

The project also will include a $20 million renovation of 32 patient rooms for the bone marrow transplant program and for patients with other serious bloodborne cancers. The rooms include 16 that are already used for transplant patients and 16 that will be converted from another use. The rooms require special features to protect patients who become critically ill during the transplant process.

The new building will provide more space for oncology practices, outpatient infusion therapies and specialty pharmacy services. Renovation of patient rooms at CMC will expand the capability of the existing adult bone marrow transplant unit.
