Hubbard Center for Children Addition

SES served as the Building System Commissioning Agent for the 7-story, $450 million, 500,000 SF Addition. Our team developed a comprehensive commissioning plan and approach specific to the owner’s requirements and the design objectives and worked in conjunction with an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team of HDR and Kiewit. The Tower addition included a new state-of-the-art Cardiac Care Unit, new PICU, NICU, Fetal Care Center, Observation Units and Support Services. The Central Campus Plant served new areas such as clinical spaces, inpatient rooms, labs and diagnostic imaging. Renovation of the existing Emergency, Radiology, and Surgery departments were also included in this project.

SES provided functional testing for the new condenser water plant that serves both the existing hospital and the Hubbard Center. Working with facility staff, we maintain the reliability of system cooing efforts throughout the building and tested the new condenser water system with only two chiller shutdowns. During construction, SES co-located with the IPD for continuous collaboration.

New generators were tested in accordance with NFPA 110 before being brought online to serve hospital load. This resulted in SES being involved over a 24-hour period consisting of detailed ATS and generator testing. The renovation portion of the project included five separate phases throughout the existing hospital affecting areas such as pharmacy, waiting rooms, gift shops, kitchen, on call, and central sterile storage and logistics.
