CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center

Outpatient Clinic and Emergency Center

SES was independently selected as the engineering team to assist CHI Health in their efforts to build a new showcase facility in the downtown Omaha area. The facility, designed as a potential Phase I of a free-standing, full-service hospital houses a fully functioning 24-hour emergency department complete with trauma, fast track and radiology. The balance of the facility houses academic functions, clinic, pharmacy, physical therapy/occupational therapy, laboratory and several clinic pods. SES was tasked with creating a dramatic exterior lighting concept that compliments the facility, re-introduces the CHI Health Brand in downtown Omaha, and provides safety to patients and staff.

Due to the location in Omaha and the logistics of the project, CHI Health asked the design and construction team to work towards a goal of allowing small, local, disadvantaged companies to contribute to much of the construction. SES worked closely with the General Contractor to design infrastructure systems that meet the Owner’s expectations, are optimized in terms of energy use, and could be assembled and installed by local small business Contractors. Additionally the project had tight budget constraints and went to market at a time of significant project cost escalation. SES worked closely with the General Contractor to consistently check budget and provide best value design practices.
