Avera on Louise Health Campus

To meet growing needs and actively shape the future of healthcare in Sioux Falls, SD, Avera Health embarked on the largest building project in Sioux Falls history: a new 82-acre specialty care campus. The new campus was designed to accommodate a diverse range of client needs through accessible and convenient high-end care for all community members. Specialty services included orthopedics, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and internal medicine.

The new 24-bed surgical hospital was connected to a medical office building by a multi-story public commons area. The hospital was designed to accommodate technologically advanced surgical suites with the latest in robotic surgical techniques. Constructed on lean principals, support services included physical therapy, lab, imaging, pharmacy, and biomedical equipment. To enhance the patient and visitor experience, the commons space invites the public to interact with the hospital through dining areas, a gift shop, a chapel, and various seating options.

SES provided full-service building systems engineering such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, technology, critical power, life safety, medical gas, and lighting design.

Delivered in an integrated process, the delivery approach allowed for an early construction start and completion as well as streamlined submittal and approval timelines. The facility energy plant was configured as a modular and expandable solution utilizing total energy recovery concepts where a combination of high-efficiency boilers or heat recovery chillers can serve the facility. This system configuration allows for additional redundancy of equipment while the facility can simultaneously make pro-active energy decisions on heating based on real time utility cost.
