This project was a multi-year, multi-phased comprehensive modernization of the entire surgery department, which impacted over 50 percent of the medical center’s entire footprint.
Our engineering staff performed an extensive mechanical and electrical (MEP) infrastructure systems assessment to set the scope of work required and determine the phasing of the project. The design and construction consisted of 18 major phases and two separate new construction phases. Each new construction phase included space for six state-of-the-art operating rooms with the latest integration technology, and 10 were built with two shell spaces for future ORs.
The project included two Hybrid ORs with bi-plane imaging equipment. The mechanical-electrical rooms were located directly above the ORs, which housed all the systems needed to serve the OR spaces. These rooms were designed so that all equipment maintenance and repairs can be performed without entering the sterile spaces. In addition to the surgical suites, 120,000 SF of existing hospital space was renovated including a new Central Sterile Department, 52-bed PACU, 28-bed Pre-Op, and support spaces.
