Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a 182-bed regional referral center and one of three Level II Trauma Centers in the state. Due to rising infusion therapy caseloads and higher patient volumes, Regional West contracted SES to provide planning and design services of a new outpatient Infusion Center to be located in the Medical Plaza South Building on the Regional West campus. The project consisted of renovating 5,500 SF of existing medical records storage and office space. Due to operational constraints and financial implications, the design and construction timelines were drastically expedited to meet the needs of Regional West. The design period of the renovation project was only 3 weeks and the construction duration was 8 weeks.
The Infusion Center consists of a patient check-in and waiting area, private, semi-private, and group infusion bays, nurse’s stations and work room, restrooms, and a hazardous drug compounding pharmacy. The primary retail pharmacy for Regional West Medical Center is located in the Main Hospital building, so a dedicated pharmacy within the Infusion Center was desired to increase staff productivity and efficiency.
New HVAC distribution and terminal equipment, plumbing distribution and fixtures, power distribution, LED lighting, fire alarm, fire sprinkler, medical gas, and nurse call systems were provided for the renovated area. The renovated area is on the 2nd floor of the Medical Plaza South Building and is surrounded on all sides and above and below by occupied clinical areas. The design and construction of the project had to carefully consider patient experience and minimize staff productivity implications.
